GREENSBORO, N.C. -- It’s almost that time of year when you tend to spend more.

However, for Melinda Bernard, Career Center coordinator for Triad Goodwill, she knows far too well how much people are looking to make rather than just spend.

"On our registration form the process is that we do ask that question, what type of employment are you looking for,” she said. "We know the holiday season is approaching and places like FedEx Ground, you know you're going to be shipping a lot more packages, e-commerce is more prevalent, people are shopping at home so you have those type of places that are hiring seasonally.”

The National Retail Federation is predicting that retailers will hire close to 700,000 seasonal workers, roughly the same as last year.

With places like Target planning to hire 70,000 workers and UPS with a plan to hire 95,000 people.

"Seasonal employment is definitely up,” Bernard stated.

However, she says a big chunk of those seasonal jobs, especially in Guilford County, are not just behind the counter.

"Manufacturing is definitely one of the top five industries in this county, so seasonal hiring is more prevalent here due to that fact. So places like Lowe's, Home Depot, FedEx Ground they are gearing for those holiday seasons,” Bernard said.

Triad Goodwill will hold a career expo Oct. 12 at the Greensboro Coliseum from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Over 50 employers will be in attendance.
