PEORIA, Ariz. -- Two caregivers were taken into custody on Sunday after a 5-month-old baby was left in a vehicle for several hours and died.

KPHO reports the adults, who are not the child's parents, left the boy in the car for a couple hours before taking him into their apartment.

Witness Leana Baker said her children first saw the child.

"My kids come down, say there is something wrong with the baby," Baker said, according to KPHO. "I go in; I try to administer CPR to the baby."

The baby was taken to the hospital and later passed away.

The investigation is ongoing.
