RALEIGH, N.C. -- Gov. Pat McCrory on Monday activated the state's emergency response team to coordinate with counties regarding fuel needs, according to a news release from the governor's office.

This comes as Colonial Pipeline officials continue working to get a bypass line in place for a damaged pipeline that supplies much of the east coast. Gas continues to flow through Colonial's No. 2 pipeline, which does not have the capacity of the damaged pipeline.

“I continue to warn motorists to be on the lookout for price gouging,” McCrory said in the release. “We are taking steps to protect consumers and ensure that fuel is continuing to flow into the state. To help ensure adequate fuel supplies, I have instructed state agencies to consider options to limit fuel use, including curtailing non-essential travel for state employees.”

The governor said the state's first priority continues to be ensuring that adequate fuel is available for first responders and emergency officials, according to the release.

Colonial expects to have a bypass of the leak in place by mid to late week, according to a news release from the governor's office Sunday night. Upon completion of the bypass, it will take a day to test and get the line back in operation.

That means if the bypass is in place by mid-week -- Wednesday -- it would need a day of testing and gas could start to flow by Friday.

Colonial continues trucking and re-supplying gasoline to the areas that need it.
