GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Guilford County Animal Shelter is in need of foster homes.

Shelter volunteers and staff say the overcrowding has them putting out an urgent call for help especially for those able to foster adult dogs.

"The happiness that I get when I see a kitten ... being taken out of it's pen by a little girl and that little girl is playing with it and mamma is saying, 'Yeah, you want to take this one home,'" is why Chad Laughter says he fosters cats. He says he typically keeps a cat for about a month to a month and a half. "Just being able to see that, that cat is going to a home with somebody that loves it."

To volunteer as a foster contact the shelter.

The shelter is closed on Tuesday but open Wednesday through Saturday from 12-6 p.m. and Sunday from 1-5 p.m.

An adoption fair is scheduled for Saturday at the High Point Museum from 10-4 p.m.
