3 beachgoers bitten by sharks within 3 hours at Florida beach

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. — Three beachgoers were bitten by sharks Sunday at New Smyrna Beach in Florida.

WESH reports the bites occurred in the same area and within three hours of each other.

A 43-year-old man’s lower leg was bitten about 10:30 a.m. Officials say the man suffered “significant lacerations,” but is expected to live.

The second incident occurred about 30 minutes later when a 36-year-old man was bitten on both hands while surfing. He was taken to a local hospital.

The last bite happened at about 1 p.m. A 16-year-old surfer was bitten on his thigh, but the injuries are considered to be minor.
