ROCKINGHAM, N.C. — Four people died Saturday in a crash on US-74 near Rockingham involving a charter bus, WBTV reported.

The Ramah Juco Academy football team from Rock Hill. S.C., was on board the bus on their way to play University of God’s Chosen in Raeford.

The bus reportedly struck an overpass bridge near mile marker 316 in Richmond County.

Authorities told WBTV that 46 people were on board the bus when it crashed. Forty-two people were taken to four area hospitals with serious to minor injuries.

Parents of some of the players were following the bus to the game, saw the crash and pulled over to help the injured.

Troopers said a blown out front tire likely caused the bus to hit the guardrail in the median.
