COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A 13-year-old Ohio boy was shot and killed by police after they say he pulled a BB gun from his waistband.

Columbus police responded to a report of an armed robbery at about 7:45 p.m. Wednesday night, according to WCMH. When they arrived at the scene, officers saw three males matching the victim's suspect description and attempted to approach them, prompting two to run.

When they did, Tyree King and another suspect were chased into an alley. When officers attempted to arrest them, King allegedly pulled out the BB gun, prompting one officer to retaliate. King was shot multiple times.

He was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead at about 8:30 p.m.

The officer who fired the shots is a nine-year veteran and will receive mandated psychological counseling.

There were no additional injuries and the investigation is ongoing.
