2 killed, 3 seriously injured in Eden crash

EDEN, N.C. — Two people were killed and three more seriously injured in a wreck that occurred in Eden Sunday afternoon.

The incident occurred on North Carolina Highway 14 near Harrington Highway at about 1:30 p.m. when a Dodge Neon crossed into southbound lanes and struck a GMC Envoy head-on. The Neon then continued forward and made contact with a pickup truck.

The Neon’s driver, 47-year-old Katherine Michelle Castenada, and front seat passenger, 40-year-old Filadelfo B. Behena, died at the scene and a rear passenger, 31-year-old Jose Garcia, was partially ejected and flown to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital with life-threatening injuries. A fourth 23-month-old occupant was taken to Morehead Memorial Hospital and flown to Brenner Children’s Hospital with serious injuries.

In addition, the driver of the GMC Envoy, 49-year-old Yevette Marcelle Parker, was taken to Moses Cone Hospital with serious injuries and the driver of the pickup truck was uninjured.

The cause of the wreck is still under investigation and no conclusions have been determined.
