CLINTON, Conn. -- Police in Connecticut released surveillance video of a car smashing through a Shell convenience store last Thursday.

WTNH reports 64-year-old Christopher Caterino was attempting to break and avoid a parked white van but accelerated and crashed into the store on accident.

The store clerk, 33-year-old Nirav Patel, was hit and injured during the incident but is expected to recover.

Luckily, many in the community came together to help the business after the crash.

“A few of us live up the street so we kind of know the owner of the business so we just… to help out see what we could help him with," said Clinton County Deputy Fire Chief Mike Neff. “So we wound up helping board up the business and take some of their personal belongings out.”

Police cited Caterino for reckless driving.
