HIGH POINT, N.C. -- Police are investigating a crash that killed one person on Business 85 early Friday morning.

At about 12:27 a.m., High Point police responded to a vehicle on fire at the section of Business 85 southbound between the Green Drive and Prospect Street exits.

Upon arrival, fire department personnel were working to extinguish the vehicle, which was at the bottom of a hill.

The vehicle's driver, Trip Justin Fields, 23, did not survive the incident.

Police say the vehicle went down a steep embankment, overturned, struck a concrete culvert and caught fire. Fire department personnel say the gas tank exploded as they pulled up to the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.

This is the 10th traffic fatality of the year for High Point.
