WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – A school bus driver has been charged after a head-on crash with a pickup truck in Winston-Salem, according to police.

John Lester Ijames faces a charge of safe movement violation-failure to yield to the right of way.

Winston-Salem police said the school bus and truck hit each other head-on Tuesday morning at Polo Road and North Cherry Street.

The crash caused the truck to be wedged under the bus and catch fire, trapping the pickup’s driver inside.

The driver of the pickup was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A good Samaritan helped save him.

There were two children on the school bus at the time of the crash and neither of them were injured.
