One dead after crash in Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — One man is dead after a crash involving a car and a truck Thursday evening in Winston-Salem, according to police.

Demarcus Hubert Jones, 51, of Winston-Salem, died at the scene from his injuries, according to the Winston-Salem Police Department.

The crash was reported shortly after 5 p.m. in the 3000 block of New Walkertown Road and involved a 1994 Dodge Shadow and a 2007 Dodge Ram truck.

Police said the victim was driving the Shadow and made a left turn out of the parking lot of Ackingna’s Place Restaurant at 3066 New Walkertown Road.

Jones was trying to drive north on New Walkertown Road and turned into the path of the truck headed south, according to police. The driver of the truck was not hurt.

New Walkertown Road between Bowen Blvd. and Waterworks Road was closed for about five hours.

This is the city’s 13th traffic fatality, as compared to 16 at this time in 2015, according to police.
