SOUTHWEST RANCHES, Fla. -- Local police in Florida captured a massive 11-foot, 450-pound alligator Wednesday morning, according to WSVN.

The alligator, which was caught on a popular walking path, was within two blocks of a local middle school.

“That’s just crazy, man, to see an alligator that big around an area that can be where little kids are,” said resident Hernando Sierra.

Police say the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has been trying to catch the creature for some time but hasn't been able to track it down, until now.

Officials also believe people have been feeding the alligator.

The Davie Police Department published a picture of the gator on its Twitter page.
