STOKES COUNTY, N.C. – A body found in Belews Lake on Thursday is presumed to be that of a man who went missing more than three months ago.

James Russell Bateman, 57, of Eden, reportedly went missing in Belews Lake after jumping in on the afternoon of May 27.

A body presumed to be Bateman was found in the lake at about 4:30 p.m. Thursday, according to Stokes County Emergency Services.

The incident was reported as Bateman and a woman were out on the lake in a boat. Bateman lost his hat, jumped out of the boat to get it and disappeared. The woman called 911.

Multiple agencies across North Carolina assisted in finding Bateman.
