Winston-Salem police investigate deadly overnight shooting

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Winston-Salem Police Department is investigating a shooting that left one person dead at the 1200 Block of 23rd Street Tuesday morning.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man lying on the sidewalk and suffering from a gunshot wound.

"It's sad because I knew the guy and the other day I saw him by Food Lion on Patterson Avenue and now he's dead it's just sad one day you're here and the next day you're gone," said neighbor Aretha Scales.

His identity is being temporarily withheld and the investigation is ongoing.
