Police investigate Labor Day shootout in High Point, one arrested
HIGH POINT, N.C. — Police are investigating a Labor Day shootout in High Point.
Captain Anthro Gamble with High Point police said the call came in at 8:17 a.m. Monday as a drive-by shooting on the 2200 block of Chambers Street.
Upon arrival, police learned that it was a shooting between drivers of two cars in the middle of the street.
The cars were identified as a white Infiniti and a green or gold Nissan model, maybe Altima. The driver of the Infiniti came back to the scene and was apprehended at the store on the corner of Fairfield Road and Brentwood Street.
Police searched the Infiniti and found narcotics and drug paraphernalia. Police found a handgun behind the store. The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Christopher Washington, was arrested on multiple drug charges, including trafficking heroin. Police are searching for the other car.
They do not know if the driver was shot. The driver of the Infiniti was not shot but was examined by EMS.
Two houses and another car were hit in the shootout. Two different kinds of shell casings were found.
