Man in critical condition after being struck by car in Mebane

MEBANE, N.C. — Police are investigating after a man was struck by a car in Mebane Sunday night.

At approximately 6:46 p.m., Mebane Police responded to the area of NorthThird Street and West Center Street in reference to a hit-and-run accident involving a pedestrian.

Christopher Scott Askey, 23, was crossing the roadway in a crosswalk when he was struck.

The suspect vehicle fled the scene.

Investigators are attempting to determine the make of the suspect vehicle based upon evidence gathered at the scene.

Askey was taken to the hospitalĀ and is currently listed in critical/unstable condition.
