UPSON COUNTY, Ga. – When she found out from doctors that her father would pass in just a few days, a bride-to-be decided to move her wedding so that her father could attend, WSB reported.

Candice Hammonds and Thomas Burkett were set to marry on Oct. 1, but because her father was sick, the two married next to her father’s hospital bed on Wednesday.

“People started pulling things together to make this wedding take place in 24 hours,” Candice Hammonds’ mother, Teresa Hammonds, said.

ICU nurses took almost everything out of father Steve Hammonds’ room and covered his ventilator with sheets.

A family friend photographed the big day.

“I don’t think I have ever experienced so much love and emotion in one room,” photographer Julie York Schandolph said. “The way that this family came together in such short time for this bedside wedding amazed me.”

Teresa Hammonds told WSB-TV that the doctor temporarily stopped sedating Steve Hammonds so he could be more alert during the ceremony. When the pastor asked who gives away this woman, Steve Hammonds raised his hand.

“It was the last gift he could give his little girl,” Teresa Hammonds said.

Steve Hammonds passed away Saturday morning.
