14-year-old girl drowns while swimming with family at Badin Lake

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, N.C. — A 14-year-old girl drowned at Badin Lake on Labor Day, according to North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission Officer Darby Enoch.

At 11:50 a.m., multiple rescue unites responded to a report of a drowning at Badin Lake.

The 14-year-old girl was swimming in the lake with her family near King’s Mountain Point in the Uwharrie National Forest when the drowning was reported, according to Enoch.

The girl’s body was recovered at 1:45 p.m., Enoch said.

The girl’s identity is being withheld pending notification of family members.
