WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A man died after a single-vehicle accident in Winston-Salem on Friday afternoon.

The accident happened at 4:56 p.m. in the 4400 block of Old Greensboro Road, according to a news release from Winston-Salem police.

When officers arrived on scene, they located a 1997 Toyota Camry at the bottom of an embankment.

The occupant of the vehicle, identified as 72-year-old Johnny Nelson Kirby, of Winston-Salem, was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center where he later died.

The preliminary investigation suggests that Kirby suffered a medical episode prior to the accident, the release said.

Old Greensboro Road from Reidsville Road to West Mountain Street will remain closed until the investigation concludes.
