LINWOOD, N.C. — Officials are investigating an apparent ammonia leak at Linwood Yard in Davidson County.

Workers noticed a tank car leaking ammonia and reported it at 9:35 a.m. Tuesday morning. The rail yard is being evacuated and Belmont Road between Clyde Fitzgerald and Linwood-Southmont Road is closed.

Davidson Emergency Services is asking residents to limit outdoor exposure until crews can access the severity of the leak.

There are hundreds of tank cars in the rail yard and it’s unknown what caused workers to notice the leak.

Linwood Yard is owned by Norfolk Southern.

The investigation is ongoing.
