Man charged with shooting, killing woman in High Point

HIGH POINT, N.C. – A man has been arrested after a woman was found shot and killed inside a High Point home on Saturday, according to police.

Carnell Tyrone Atkins, 46, faces charges in connection to the death of 47-year-old Michelle Geniva Morgan, according to the High Point Police Department.

Police said officers were called to 1107 Cassell St. at about 7:42 p.m. in reference to an unknown trouble call.

Arriving officers found the victim inside the home suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency workers responded and pronounced the victim dead from her injuries.

The suspect was present at the scene and detained. He faces charges of first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and has been jailed in Guilford County without bond.

There is no word on a motive or the circumstances surrounding the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
