ROSMAN, N.C. — The Brevard’s High School band will perform in Rosman Friday, but minus its band director, who is on administrative leave after a band member accuses him of assault, according to WLOS.

The Transylvania County Sheriffs Department is investigating and talking to eyewitnesses. Schools superintendent Jeff McDaris said he has basic information on the allegations.

“The general consensus is he reached over and touched the student on the shoulder, and I really don’t know how aggressive that was,” said McDaris.

He said the alleged incident happened on the sidewalk on Brevard High School grounds, outside the band room behind the high school.

“He did not admit to anything. His version of what happened differs from other versions,” said McDaris.

He would not elaborate on what more he may know. He said the school is letting the sheriff’s department handle the investigation, and the decision if the band director will face charges.
