CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A North Carolina teenager who accidentally killed his best friend in March was sentenced to 90 days in jail.

DeMichael Adams pleaded guilty on Thursday to involuntary manslaughter and is set to serve three months in jail over the next 12 months, according to WBTV. He also will be on probation for the next three years.

Adams killed 18-year-old Dallas Stowe when he shot him in the chest.

“Just leave the guns alone. We’re killing each other. Young kids are killing each other over gun violence, senseless,” said Tiffany White, Stowe’s mother. “There’s no reason why Dallas should not be here to this day to say ‘hey mom I graduated from high school’.”

Adams officially apologized to Stowe’s family in court, saying the two were like brothers.

White said she thinks the sentence and light and still doesn’t truly understand what occurred on the night of the incident.
