PITTSBURGH — A University of Pittsburgh student who was trying to impress a woman by leaping from one rooftop to another fell into a gap between two buildings and got stuck Tuesday morning.
Police say the woman called 911 after 22-year-old Grant Birdsong fell and emergency crews spent almost four hours trying to save him, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
“It appeared there were three walls we had to go through, and also we had people on the roof,” said Wendell Hissrich, Pittsburgh public safety director, according to WTAE. “One of the paramedics did rappel down three stories to render assistance, and also provide us some landmarks to where he was.”
Birdsong was finally freed around 6 a.m. and officials say he sustained an ankle injury.
The Pittsburgh Public Safety spokeswoman Emily Schaffer said they are still reviewing the incident and deciding whether to file charges.
