STILLWATER, Okla. — An inmate in an Oklahoma jail helped a prison officer when another inmate began attacking him.

Surveillance video shows 24-year-old Robert Frank Maret punch the detention officer before picking him and throwing him to the ground, KOCO reports.

The jailer called for backup and another inmate sitting on a nearby bench stepped in to stop the fight.

In the video, Robert Charles Hammock grabs Maret and helped the officer restrain him until backup arrives.

Maret was initially arrested on public intoxication and petit larceny charges but now faces an extra charge of assault on a police officer. He could face up to five years in prison if convicted.
