RALEIGH, N.C. — A North Carolina mom is facing child abuse charges after she did not pick up her son from the bus stop and left four children at home alone on Tuesday.

Police responded to the Wake County Schools bus garage at about 6:45 p.m. after the boy’s mother, 29-year-old Sarai Flores-Lechuga, did not pick him up from the stop.

School administrators attempted to call Flores-Lechuga several times before police finally found the woman around 11:15 p.m. at her home, according to the News and Observer.

In addition, authorities determined that she left an 8-year-old girl, one-year-old infant, and two young boys alone in the apartment for more than six hours.

Flores-Lechuga was charged with four counts of misdemeanor child abuse and is in jail on a $5,000 bond.

The investigation is ongoing.
