Elon women’s basketball team uninjured after earthquake in Italy
ROME — The Elon University women’s basketball team were in Rome when a 6.2-magnitude earthquake hit central Italy on Wednesday, killing at least 39 people.
According to a Tweet by the university, head coach Charlotte Smith said the team was fine.
“There was an earthquake here in Italy. We are safe and ok. No damage here but I felt the hotel shaking,” she said in the post.
According to the school’s website, the team was in Italy for “international and culture learning and playing experience.”
The earthquake killed people in the villages of Pescara del Tronto, Accumoli, and Amatrice.
