EMERALD ISLE, N.C. -- A video that was sent to FOX8 by a viewer appears to show several sharks swimming off the North Carolina coast.

The video appears to show a group of sharks swimming Saturday near the Bogue Inlet Fishing Pier at Emerald Isle.

“It was just mesmerizing,” said a local viewer from Lexington who provided the video footage.

She said sharks at the fish cleaning station halfway down the pier is not uncommon, but she was surprised by how close people were swimming and surfing near the pier.

Two people in North Carolina waters were bitten in June by sharks. An 18-year-old male on vacation was bitten on the hand at Atlantic Beach on June 11. Two weeks later, an 11-year-old boy was bitten at Fort Macon while surfing.
