Food Lion giving away free water at High Point locations on Saturday
HIGH POINT, N.C. – Food Lion will give out free bottled water at four locations on Saturday after E.coli bacteria was found in High Point’s water supply.
Free water will be offered between 8 and 10 a.m. and again from 4 to 6 p.m. at 3935 Brian Jordan Place, 1107 E. Lexington Ave., 2200 Westchester Drive and 10102-F S. Main St. in Archdale.
A water boil advisory was issued Friday in High Point and Jamestown after city officials said E.coli/Fecal coliform bacteria was found in High Point’s water supply.
North Carolina officials ask residents to boil all water used for consumption for at least one minute or use bottled water. They advise against consumption by drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation.
High Point issued the advisory at about 1:30 p.m. Friday. The problem is expected to be resolved within two days.
The city of High Point has increased sampling and water mains are being flushed. Samples taken above and below the positive sample location showed no bacteria, which indicates an isolated incident.
The sample was taken from a private water line on Sherry Court in Jamestown. Jamestown’s water supply is a consecutive system of High Point’s, according to Jamestown Public Services Director Paul Blanchard.
The bacteria can make people sick and is of particular concern for residents with weakened immune systems. E. coli symptoms can include vomiting, fever and diarrhea.
