MERIWETHER COUNTY, Ga. — An elderly Georgia woman was beaten and set on fire during a home invasion Thursday night.

Police say 83-year-old Dorothy Dow is in critical condition after 3-5 suspects forced their way into her home, demanded money and attacked her.

“Once they entered the home, one individual entered her bedroom where she was already in bed,” said Meriwether County Sheriff Chuck Smith, according to WGCL-TV.

One man reportedly beat her with a gun, breaking several bones in the process, before another set the elderly woman on fire.

She was able to put the fire out with a bottle of water and call 911 but sustained several injuries.

The woman is currently in a medically-induced coma.
