Driver hits man waiting for church bus in Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A man was hit by a van while waiting for his church bus in Winston-Salem Sunday morning.

Steven Stewart, 32, was standing on the sidewalk at the intersection of Link Road and Peters Creek Parkway waiting for his church bus when 37-year-old Erik Brandon Randolph’s vehicle left the roadway at hit Stewart, Winston-Salem police said.

Randolph’s vehicle eventually struck a utility pole, causing a power outage in the immediate area.

Stewart sustained injuries to his lower extremities. Randolph was taken to the hospital for observation because he was unconscious at the scene.

Winston-Salem police have charged Randolph with driving while impaired, driving while license revoked and failure to maintain lane.
