HOUSTON, Texas – A Texas mother whose daughter was found dead in a refrigerator has been sentenced to 40 years in prison.

The Houston Chronicle reported that Amber Keyes was sentenced Friday to four decades in connection to the death of 9-year-old Ayahna Comb.

The victim had cerebral palsy and was reported missing in the summer of 2014. Keyes pleaded guilty in December to injury to a child by omission.

The victim’s body was found in the crisper drawer of the family’s refrigerator, according to the paper. She had been dead for about 6 months.

Keyes reportedly admitted to the crime in 2014 and told police she was unable to resuscitate her daughter with CPR and put her in the refrigerator.
