ASHEBORO, N.C. -- The Alligator exhibit at the North Carolina Zoo is one of its most popular.

With Alligator sightings on the rise, people continue to flock to the exhibit to check the animals out.

Zookeeper Paul Decker has worked with gators for decades said that even with growing protection of the animals, humans are taking up habitats that they have long occupied.

"Their populations are continuing to grow due to protection, but at the same time, their habitat is shrinking," he said. "We are moving into their neighborhoods."
