North Carolina man drowns while visiting Atlantic Beach

ATLANTIC BEACH, N.C. – A North Carolina man has drowned while visiting Atlantic Beach, according to WCTI.

The victim has been identified as 41-year-old Shane Wyatt of Old Fort, N.C. He died Wednesday evening and was Atlantic Beach’s third rip current-related death this summer.

Authorities were called to the beach shortly before 7:30 p.m. in reference to the incident. Officials said Wyatt was swimming and got caught up in a rip current.

Beach goers were able to pull him up on the beach and perform CPR. He was later taken to a hospital.

The victim and his family were visiting the beach at the time of the incident.
