POPE BEACH, Calif. — It’s hard to tell if this video is terrifying or downright cute.

Beachgoers were shocked when a family of bears went for a quick dip at Pope Beach in California.

The video shows the mother and her two cubs nonchalantly clean themselves and splash around as several people were swimming less than twenty feet away from them.

Though most people took photos and seemed to enjoy the bears’ random appearance, experts say it is important for people to keep their distance – no matter how cute they are.

“That situation is cute and cuddly until it isn’t cute and cuddly anymore,” Chris Healy, Nevada Department of Wildlife Spokesman said. “All you need is one human, being stupid, getting too close to these bears.”
