CHICAGO — A 9-month-old Chicago infant was found dead in the basement of a residence Tuesday night after firefighters extinguished a vacant house fire.

Firefighters responded to the residence at about 9:30 p.m. and discovered the infant’s body underneath a pile of trash, according to WLS-TV.

Authorities are investigating how and when the baby died, and three people were taken in for questioning.

An unconfirmed report said gasoline has been linked to the cause of the fire, but the investigation is ongoing.
