BELMONT, N.C. — A dog is recovering after being impaled while jumping over a fence.
Gaston County resident Mary Dixon returned home Saturday after running errands to find her Labrador, Wilbur, stuck on the iron fence in her backyard, the Gaston Gazette reports.
Wilbur’s owners and several nearby workers came over to hold the dog up until fight fighters arrived.
Once there, they used a power tool to saw off a portion of the fence to get Wilbur down.
Luckily, the metal rod that impaled the dog did not puncture any vital organs and the dog is expected to return home in several days.
Dixon plans to build a different outdoor fence that does not have sharp points at the end.
