Tennessee father dies trying to save 3 children at NC beach

SHACKLEFORD BANKS, N.C. — A 35-year-old Tennessee father is dead after trying to save his three daughters from a rip current Monday afternoon.

The incident occurred around 1 p.m. when the man’s daughters were caught in a riptide near the west end of Shackleford Banks. The father immediately jumped into the water to save his three girls, WNCT reports.

The children were rescued by bystanders and a man in a boat, but the father wasn’t able to make it back, police say.

Rescue crews attempted CPR on him, but upon arrival at a local hospital, was pronounced dead.

The man’s name has yet to be released.
