WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory made light of the controversial House Bill 2 law Monday night at a Trump rally in Winston-Salem.

He opened his speech by pointing out nearby exits and bathrooms.

"Alright, let's be safe now. We've got a big crowd," McCrory began. "And if any of you need to use the restrooms..."

He paused for a moment and the crowd began to erupt with laughter.

The law requires transgender people to use bathrooms in schools, universities and governmental buildings that correspond to their gender given at birth. Private companies are allowed to implement any policy they choose.

A federal court announced Monday afternoon the trial in a legal challenge to North Carolina’s controversial House Bill 2 is slated to begin on Monday, November 14.
