GROTON, Conn. — A homecoming for local sailors in Groton turned into another kind of celebration Thursday.

Two soldiers got to meet their babies for the first time. One submariner also got a surprise when he is going to be a dad.

The men had traveled aboard the U.S.S. Springfield for six months.

Jenna Feist, whose husband Alexander was onboard, said she’s excited for him to be back.

“He is definitely the helm of our household. We’re excited to have him back and in the role. I’m excited for co-parenting again,” said Feist.

Feist’s son is now two months old and met his father for the first time.

“Being reunited with my family is an amazing blessing,” said Feist.

Ann Marie Yantis told her husband Alex Yantis that she is expecting. The couple had been trying for a year and a half.

“We really got blessed in (I’m) definitely excited to tell him,” said Yantis.

It was an emotional reveal for the family.

“She’s always pulling stuff like this on me. I’m not a crier but I’m trying to keep that one deep down inside. This is amazing,” said Yantis.

Yantis will hear his baby’s heartbeat when they visit the doctor Friday.
