NC man accused of shooting, killing mother thought she was an intruder

GOLDSBORO, N.C. – A North Carolina man accused of shooting and killing his mother told authorities that he thought she was an intruder.

WITN reported that Shontionne Darden, 31, of Goldsboro, faces charges of second-degree murder and felony possession of a firearm by a felon.

Police responded to the shooting at about 3:20 a.m. Friday at a home in Goldsboro. The victim, 49-year-old Sonya Darden, was found dead in the home.

The suspect told police he thought he had heard an intruder. That’s when he allegedly shot and killed his mother.

Darden was jailed under a secured bond and has court planned for Monday, according to WITN.
