AZUSA, Calif. — A California man who is in jail for killing 19-year-old Justin Romo while driving drunk is attempting to right his wrong by raising money for the victim’s family, KABC reports.

26-year-old Tyler Thompson, who was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the offense in 2014, set up a GoFundMe page and has raised more than $1,000 of his $10,000 goal.

“I would like to tell Tyler Thompson he is a remarkable young man. It touches my heart that he is doing something to bring awareness to all the families who have lost children to drinking and driving,” said Lupe Thompson, Romo’s mother told KABC.
