GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Three lanes of West Friendly Avenue between Mendenhall and Cedar Street were closed early Wednesday morning after the road buckled into a self-made speed bump, police say. The lanes are expected to be blocked through the end of the day.

The street has been shut down since 4 a.m. City of Greensboro representative Jake Keys confirmed that crews were trying to determine why the buckling happened but said heat could be a factor. Similar incidents have not been reported on other roads this year, he said.
