DUPONT STATE FOREST — A Henderson County teen is dead after a swimming accident at a popular waterfall, WLOS reported.

According to Transylvania County Sheriff David Mahoney, 18-year-old Endi Alvarez was swimming with family at Hooker Falls the time of the drowning.

It happened around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Mahoney said.

“The sheriff’s office is calling this an accidental drowning, but officers are still looking into what exactly caused Alvarez to go under – the family told officials he did know how to swim,” Mahoney said.
