ATLANTA — A 9-year-old boy is asking officers to  stay safe after seeing the protests in Atlanta on television.

William Smiley asked his mother to call and check up on Kim Jones, an officer with the Atlanta Police Department, WSB-TV reports.

In a Facebook post made by the City of Atlanta Police Department, Jones responded to Smiley by thanking him and giving her love.

William is the son of Officer Shawn Smiley, who was killed in 2012 in a helicopter crash as he and his partner searched for a missing child.

“I love you and never forget that,” she said. “He has the perfect last name and the prettiest smile.”
