DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. – A body was found at High Rock Lake on Sunday morning as crews searched for a missing swimmer, according to authorities.

The identity of the victim has not been released.

A group of friends went swimming at High Rock Lake on Saturday, according to Davidson County EMS Director Larry James. The group said a 24-year-old man with them never made it back to shore.

Emergency rescue crews got a call about a possible drowning at the lake near Lakeview Drive at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Investigators had been searching a large area of water at the section of the lake. James said the group of friends have different memories of where exactly in the water the victim had been last seen.

Investigators found the victim’s clothes and cell phone on shore on Saturday.

The group of friends he was with were from Greensboro, but James said the victim is not from Greensboro and not from Davidson County.

Multiple agencies, including first responders with Davidson and Rowan counties and the North Carolina Wildlife, participated in the search. Dogs, divers and sonar equipment were used.
