Greensboro man dies after crash during chase with state trooper
GREENSBORO, N.C. – A Greensboro man has died after authorities said he led a state trooper on a high-speed chase, lost control and crashed.
Demario Tavarish Polk, 29, was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro on Glendale Road when a North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper tried to stop him for “an unknown vehicle violation” shortly before midnight Saturday, according to Master Trooper Chris Knox.
Knox said Polk did not stop and went through a red light at a high rate of speed.
Polk then lost control, traveled off the roadway to the right, hit a ditch, went airborne and landed in some type of creek bed, according to Knox.
Knox said Polk was not wearing a seat belt at the time and died at the scene. He was the only person in the car.
Troopers said there were outstanding warrants for Polk’s arrest, but have not said what for.
At this point, troopers aren’t sure how fast Polk was driving at the time of the crash or how long the chase lasted, but did describe the chase as “brief.”
