DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. – Several crews are involved in a recovery search at High Rock Lake, according to Davidson County EMS Director Larry James.

"Right now we have to assume he's in the water," James said.

James says on Saturday, a group of friends went swimming at High Rock Lake. The group of friends said a 24-year-old man with the group never made it back to shore.

Around 2:30 p.m. Saturday, EMS crews got a call about a possible drowning at the lake, near Lakeview Drive.

Investigators say they are searching a large area of water at the section of the lake. James says the group of friends have different memories of where exactly in the water the missing man was last seen.

Investigators found the missing man’s clothes and cell phone on shore. Investigators aren't releasing his name at this time.

The group of friends he was with were from Greensboro, but James says the missing man is not from Greensboro and not from Davidson County.

Multiple agencies, including first responders with Davidson and Rowan counties and the North Carolina Wildlife, participated in the search. Dogs, divers and sonar equipment were used.

The search went into the night and will continue on Sunday morning.
