Davidson County man arrested, charged with child abuse

DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — A man has been charged with child abuse following an investigation that began in May, according to Det. J. Todd with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office.

Billy Ray Gregg, 40, of Lexington, is charged with misdemeanor child abuse.

On May 16, the sheriff’s office started an investigation in reference to possible child abuse. The report was first received by the Davidson County Department of Social Services and alleged that someone had assaulted a child.

An investigation revealed that Gregg had abused the child, Todd said.

Gregg was taken into custody and charged. He was given a $2,000 secured bond and placed in the Davidson County Jail with a court date of Aug. 2.
